No GW:EN CD?
I waited to make up my mind about buying GW:EN and (obviously!) decided eventually to purchase it for my birthday, yesterday. Drove into town to pick up a box copy, and was almost to check-out when I remembered to take a closer look at the box.
DVD-ROM. Sigh. My computer lacks that feature. No GW:EN for me. I've been reading stuff here at Guru, and the wikis, and the official site, since well before the announcement of the upcoming release of the expansion, and I do not recall ever seeing mention of it not being a CD-ROM release, like the first 3 campaigns. This is very disappointing. I could order the game from the online store, but my computer and internet connection are both on the slow side (quite a bit), and the potential hours of downloading are not something I look forward to wasting when I could be playing the game instead. How come the powers that be suddenly changed the format? I've poked around Amazon and other websites and not found any other versions... So I guess I'm out of luck. |

Your not even CLOSE to being out of luck... you dont need to install anything.
Guild Wars and just about any other client based MMO doesnt require more than one install. If you have Prophecies installed you have NF Faction, and GWEN aswell. You cant access the content without the key however. |

You don't need to use the dvd if you've downloaded guild wars in your pc. It can also be downloaded form the official site.
Edit: Ninja'ed. What the person above said. |

CD/DVD = so you don't have to download the content.
No CD/DVD = You'll only have to download the content as you go, or just use -image. (Same as if you bought it from the ingame store) |

Sorry - I just woke up and I'm still decaffeinated. Uhmm... I assumed there would be some initial download, based on using the discs in the past. So... If I purchase the game via the online store, I don't have to download anything. Then, what is on the discs when you buy the box copies?
(Edit - okay, so that's whats on the CDs. Thanks, Arcane_Penguin) I.. am not the quickest to catch onto things. I still don't understand, based on all replies (that I've seen so far) whether there is a method that will give me less downloads, or if I'm going to have to download the same amount of content, regardless, should I purchase through the online store. Nope... Its only to install the GWs Client... if you have played Guild Wars since GWEN came out you have most likely downloaded the majority of the content. I havent used a GWs CD since Prophecies.

Okay. Then all the downloading from then would be zoning into new areas and whatnot, which I would still have to wait through, anyway. I get it. Thanks for the answers, everyone (and not making me feel as dumb as I probably sound right now! ) |

So I don't need to purchase Factions or Nightfall to add them on; I can just buy keys off the online store?
Sweet! |

Kitty - you can also download it all at once if you can leave the comp on - as someone mentioned before, the -image addition to the Target of your Guild Wars shortcut will download everything at once. That way you won't have to wait between areas.
Genesis - yes. And they automatically add the new keys to your account, so no hassle for you. I did this with GWEN and was very pleased with it. |
